Twenty eight valiant neighbors gathered on March 9th 2024 for the launch of the FLPC 2024 season -- that is, the beginning of our eighth year of service. Fired up by our new slogan, "Litter No More in '24", the group picked up 30 bags of garbage in all. Yea, us!!
Looking for something fun to do with great neighbors just as the weather turns cooler? We've got just the thing for you: picking up litter for just one hour, fueled by free coffee and by our pre-pickup convo at Rosa Coffee Shop! Talk about exhilarating! Not only that... but we'll certainly -have autumn leaves gracing our efforts with profuse color! RSVP to Mary at 313-980-8850 or on our Events page -- funlitterpickupclub.org/events.
The Rosedale Fun Litter Pickup Club hit a major milestone on August 12th when 32 neighbors turned out to pick up litter along Outer Drive, McNichols, Grand River, Southfield at Schoolcraft, Bretton, and the Southfield service drive. This marked our highest turnout ever!! Trixie, the pooch, also joined in on the fun! The Rosedale Fun Litter Pickup Club was honored to participate for the first time ever in North Rosedale Park's 93rd annual June Day Parade on June 10, 2023. More than 20 members -- of all ages -- took part in our contingent. I believe it's fair to say that we made a big sensation with our neon vests, expertly crafted homemade banner, and exquisite play list transmitted from a wagon-drawn boombox that urged "people we need your help, we can't do this by ourselves". FLPC members sang and danced along with the catchy tunes, with litter grabbers serving as erstwhile batons. Some participants could be seen hustle dancing along with the music. Several members handed out cards to spectators encouraging participation in our group's efforts. One of our members noted that this was the most fun they'd ever had as a Fun Litter Pickup Club member, a sentiment shared by many. So, when is a parade is more than a parade? When it's a ton of fun, brings out the best in its participants, and when it galvanizes community action!! |
